Tender Ghosts/ Zärtliche Gespenster
Photo book, which is to be produced in a small edition via crowdfunding, 2024

He [Florian] had a certain idea of childhood and at some point he said to me: Look, now you have something like you told me, where you used to go on vacation with your grandparents. The point was that he - strangely, actually - bought back a memory for me that had nothing to do with him and his life at all.

Tender Ghosts (Zärtliche Gespenster) is dedicated to Marianne Enzensberger's living worlds, which are based on the models of the communes at the end of the 1960s. Marianne is a musician, actress and author. The book contains fragments of conversations about her life ideals and experiences with companions, as well as about the farm she bought together with Florian and Gerd in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the 1990s. For Marianne, designing the communal rooms and the rooms where she lived with Florian was his last project and legacy before he died of AIDS-related complications in 1996.

When I visited this place for the first time and heard Florian's name, I remembered that I had met him when he was an intern at the Deutsche Oper Berlin between 1983 and 1985. This led me to a search for traces, not only for the reasons for the preservation of these rooms. But also for a bygone era and the attitude to life that is still attached to the rooms and the things in them today.

The photos, just a selection here, were taken between 2014 and 2019. Excerpts from conversations I had with Marianne during this time will be found in the publication.
