FLAGSHIPS OF CULTURE – NEUE NORDISCHE KULTURHÄUSER Ausstellung / Exhibition

Neue Museen, multifunktionale Konzert-, Schauspiel- und Opernhäuser setzen Signale im urbanen Raum und Maßstäbe für das städtische Bauen. Sie wollen Spiegelbild einer innovativen aufgeschlossenen Identität einer Stadt und darüber hinaus eines Landes sein. In den fünf nordischen Ländern – Dänemark (mit Grönland), Finnland, Island, Norwegen und Schweden – sind oder entstehen gerade solch bedeutsame Kulturhäuser. Zwei Häuser (in Kopenhagen und Oslo) wurden bereits 2008 eröffnet, in Reykjavík sowie Helsinki stehen die Einweihungen im August bevor, Malmö eröffnet 2013/14 und in Nuuk wurde im Februar der Sieger der Ausschreibung bekanntgegeben. Die gemeinsame Ausstellung der Nordischen Botschaften zeigte nicht nur die Ideen, die hinter den architektonischen Entwürfen stehen, sondern beleuchtete deren Umsetzung und damit die Rolle, die diese Architekturen in der jeweiligen Stadtlandschaft und Gesellschaft einnehmen wollen.

The dream of many city fathers is the Bilbao effect – an architectural masterpiece that attracts tourists and is known nationally and internationally as icon of the city. In the five Nordic countries – Denmark (with Greenland), Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden outstanding cultural buildings are currently being planned or have recently been constructed. Two buildings (in Copenhagen and Oslo) were already opened in 2008, in Reykjavík and Helsinki openings are planned for August, Malmö is planning an opening in 2013/14, and in Nuuk the winner of the architecture competition was announced last February. The joint exhibition of the Nordic Embassies not only showed the architectural visions behind these projects and their implementation, but also highlights the role of these buildings in society and in the urban landscape. Key thematic aspects include sustainability and energy efficiency, lighting, art and design, materials, technology and acoustics and urban planning.
